There are goodies in your future, with this Twilight Zone Mystic Seer Candy Box!
If you read my previous post, then you’re already well-aware of my excitement about May 11th being Twilight Zone Day!
One of my earliest (and fondest) memories from childhood is watching The Twilight Zone with my family. The show played a critical role for me, as I’ve been inspired by it on a multitude of levels. I can wholeheartedly say that Mr. Rod Serling is one of my greatest influences, right up there with Mr. William Castle.
If I were asked to pick a favorite episode, it would be near impossible for me to just pick one. There are so many episodes that I have personally felt a special connection with. One of them being “Nick of Time” (season 2, episode 7), where a young William Shatner begins obsessively relying on a Mystic Seer napkin holder to determine his actions and future.
I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen the episode, so I encourage you to please head over to Amazon Prime or Netflix to stream all of the episodes in their entirety!
While this Twilight Zone Mystic Seer Candy Box won’t be able to look into your future for a penny, it will be able to deliver you whatever delicious goodies you decide to put inside. Fill it with chocolate coins, black-&-white candies, or my recipe for my Twilight Zone Spiral of Madness cookies. I’ve even included some blank Mystic Seer cards for personalizing the candy boxes for the recipient!
Twilight Zone Mystic Seer Candy Box Printable
What You Need:
- White cardstock
- Printable template, printed on cardstock
- Xacto blade
- Ruler
- Black or silver pipe cleaners
- Adhesive
- Awl
- Bone folder
- Optional: use lollipops instead of pipe cleaners to attach the Mystic Seer head
What To Do:
First, download and print out the template, and gather all of your supplies. You’ll need something to cut out the template with (I used an Xacto blade and a ruler for precision), adhesive, and a couple of pipe cleaners. If you’d like to add windows to your box, you’ll also need some clear plastic or cellophane. An awl and bone folder work well for scoring and folding the fold lines of the box, but are optional.
Next, cut out the box using an Xacto and ruler, or, very carefully with scissors. If you want windows in your box, cut out the white panels on the side (where the napkins would be dispensed on a real Mystic Seer!).
Cut one straight line through the black section of where the Mystic Seer would dispense your fortune. Don’t completely cut out the shape; just one straight line will firmly hold it in place.
Using an awl or a bone folder and your ruler, score all of the dotted lines. Please note: there is not a dotted line on the front-top of the box; this is so the front of the Mystic Seer candy box is rounded/beveled.
Now you just need to fold along the score lines. I like to use a bone folder to get sharp, precise creases.
It’s difficult to see in this photo, but I have cut out small pieces of clear plastic to place in the ‘windows’ of the box. I used the pieces that I cut out as a guide; just make sure they are slightly bigger.
Using glue, attach the windows to the insides of the box.
Alternatively, you may omit the windows and just place your goodies inside of a clear plastic/cellophane bag before placing in the box.
Using a small amount of glue/adhesive, assemble the box. While the glue is drying, use this time to cut out the Mystic Seer’s head and the blank Mystic Seer fortune cards. Add the recipient’s name to the card, or write a personalized fortune.
Then, use your awl (or twist your Xacto blade) to punch two holes in the lid of the box. This is where the pipe cleaner will be inserted, which is what holds your Mystic Seer’s head in place.
Want to sweeten things up even more? Simply poke one hole in the middle, and insert a flat-backed lollipop instead! Just make sure you have plenty of goodies inside of the box to hold it firmly in place.
Cut a small piece of pipe cleaner (around 3 inches or so), fold it in half, and insert each end into one of the holes on the box.
On the underside of the lid, bend the ends of the pipe cleaner to firmly hold it in place.
On the top of the box, twist the loop of the pipe cleaner once or twice to secure it in place.
Then attach the Mystic Seer’s head using adhesive or tape.
Then fill your Mystic Seer Candy Box with your favorite black-and-white candies, chocolate coins, or my Twilight Zone Spiral of Madness cookies!
Insert your personalized Mystic Seer fortune cards into the slot, at an upward angle.
Where is the download link for the template? Also, the “Download Cards” button doesn’t work. I tried two browsers to no avail.
Hi! How can I download the template for the mystic seer box? I would love to have this at my Twilight Zone party!

That means a lot, Melina; thank you. I develop all of my recipes and photograph, design, and program everything myself.
Thank you for this! I adored all things dark as a kid and Twilight Zone was my favorite!
